New GOV.UK site activity dashboard

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Performance Platform

Today we’re releasing a new performance dashboard for activity on GOV.UK. This shows total web traffic to the GOV.UK site, the most popular content on GOV.UK, and trends in the types of device that people are using to access the site.

The Performance Platform and the GOV.UK dashboard have both seen a number of iterations since launch in 2012. (For a short trip down memory lane, here is the blog from launch.) But for the past year, our focus has been on transactional services. In that time, traffic to GOV.UK has grown significantly, and the latest release of the dashboard reflects this.

There is now a single dashboard for activity on GOV.UK, covering data across central government, departments and policies, replacing the separate departments and policy dashboard. The GOV.UK dashboard now shows live service usage, trending content and device breakdown on a single page.

Tom Loosemore’s recent post about mobile traffic to GOV.UK clearly struck a chord with many of you and our visualisation showing how people access GOV.UK  is the first step in making this data regularly available. We appreciate it is not as detailed as the data in Tom’s blog but we are working on that - watch this space.

Even at the highest level, it is interesting to see the rise in use of mobile and tablet which at the start of March 2013 accounted for 24% of views but now make up 35%. And of course, the impact of Christmas where mobile and tablet accounted for 41% that week.

So I invite you to take a look at the new activity on GOV.UK dashboard and the changes we have made to the Performance Platform.

We are continuing to iterate the dashboard and the Performance Platform and would welcome your feedback, comments or ideas.

Any reason why the "Is there anything wrong with this page?" links in the dashboard just take you up one page/navigation layer (e.g. from /live-service-usage to /site-activity or from /site activity to /performance)?

Hi. It should not do that and it is something we are aware of. We hope to have a release out to fix it in the next couple of days.

This is great! The only addition I'd like to see would be the actual visitor numbers next to each of the 'Top' and 'Trending' sections.

    Keep up the good work.
